Julius Grafton is an entertainment technology and media industry veteran with over 45 years experience across the Australian industry. He is a former lighting designer and audio engineer. For the past 25 years has led CX Network, the industry media outlet across Australia and New Zealand.
Julius has continually advocated for technical crew workers rights and is member of peak industry bodies such as Live Performance Australia, ACETA and ETNZ.
Through the first decade of this century Julius incorporated and ran a technical college that delivered accredited Diploma courses in Sydney, derived from the Live Production, Theatre and Events training package. He has extensive knowledge of the Australian tertiary and further education system.
From 1994 Julius ran regular and comprehensive safety seminars at ENTECH Tradeshow which he established, and again from 2011 at CX Summer Roadshow - a national touring tradeshow across Australia. In 2015 Julius repurchased ENTECH and rebranded as ENTECH Roadshow.
ENTECH Roadshow runs every March with a one day event in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, and each second July across Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch (NZ).
Julius also partners in a similar events known as SECTECH across Australia in May each year.
CX Network publishes CX Magazine, the trade journal for entertainment technology and audio visual - in print since 1993.
2017 - 2019: Vice President & Partner, ENTECH USA LLC
Startup touring trade-show with extensive sales and infrastructure put in place for events starting 2019. Did not achieve milestones, orderly shutdown early 2019.
2015 - present : CEO and sole owner of CX Network NZ Ltd
2011 - present: Owner of ENTECH Roadshow
Re-purchased the ENTECH brand and database. Now operated as ENTECH ROADSHOW across Australia and NZ
2011 - 2017: Owner and operator of CX-TV, online video news outlet.
2002 – 2010 : CEO and sole owner of Julius Events College
The college delivered accredited training from Certificate to Advanced Diploma level and was a Registered Training Organisation with CRICOS (foreign student accreditation). The college ran event management and entertainment technical streams. Traineeship and government funded training was also offered.
1994 – 2004 : OWNER, ENTECH trade show and convention
Peak industry event for the entertainment technology industry in Australia, held in 2 Halls at Darling Harbour with an extensive three day education program managed by Julius. ENTECH was sold to E.T.F. in 2004.
1990 – present : PUBLISHER / EDITOR and sole owner of CX Network
CX is the trade journal for the entertainment technology industry in Australia, reporting on backstage technology and issues for theatre, events and broadcast industries. Stood down as editor in 2018. Still contributes.
1984 – 1988 : OWNER, Australian Monitor Pty Ltd
Pro audio manufacturing and export company.
1975 – 1989 : OWNER, Graftons Sound and Lighting
Stage lighting and audio hire, production, touring, installation and manufacture.
1973 – 1975: OWNER, Zapco Lightshows
